"So what's it gonna be, boy?" my wife will ask me when she has asked me a question I don't have an immediate answer to.
"I'm processing," I tell her as my mind runs a hundred miles a minute.
I started a book today by Daniel Kahneman titled "Thinking, Fast and Slow".
He argues there are two types of thinking. One based on past experiences and biases, fast thinking. The other is based on the mental effort it takes to solve complex computations or unfamiliar situations, slow thinking.
.Most want to be thought of as thoughtful, carefully calculating all the variables of a situation to come to a rational answer. The fact is most of us make snap decisions based on past experiences.
Having driven a car for many years, I have a good idea by the way the other cars are driving whether I'm in a bad situation. "Look at that idiot changing lanes like a maniac." or whether I'm going to progress to my destination without a problem.
Then you have to consider emotions. I might be changing lanes like an idiot, but I'm late for an important appointment and the people around me are a bunch of slow pokes.
In addition to improving my communication skills, I am working on my reasoning skills. Connecting the dots. I must admit that this has been a challenge.
In our Income calls five days a week, my Partner Ryan Fletcher leads the call and quite frankly I finish the call feeling both smarter and dumber. He goes down rabbit holes that I never considered and comes out the other side with a brilliant conclusion or way of looking at a situation that leaves me gobsmacked.
I know to become proficient I must practice mastering situational strategy and connecting the dots.
